PROF. AARON J. CIECHANOVER ELECTED TO MEMERSHIP IN THE AMERICAN NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES

The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) announced on May 1, 2007, that Prof. Aaron J. Ciechanover of the Rappaport Institute has been elected as one of its new members.
The NAS is a private U.S. organization, established in 1863 and is composed of 2,025 members from the U.S. as well as 387 foreign associates. Prof. Ciechanover’s election brings a great deal of honor and prestige to himself, the Rappaport Institute, and all of Israel. Only 15 of the foreign associates are from Israel. The Rappaport Institute is also represented in the NAS by Prof. Avram Hershko. Prof. Ciechanover is the only Israeli scientist elected this year.
The members of the Academy are chosen in recognition of their research endeavors and the Academy is called upon to advise the U.S. government in matters of science and technology.
