Nobel Prize Award to Rappaport Institute Members
Professors Avram Hershko and Aaron Ciechanover
On December 10, 2004, a new era opened in Israeli science when Distinguished Professors Avram Hershko and Aaron Ciechanover became Israel’s first Nobel Laureates in science. Professors Hershko and Ciechanover of the Technion’s Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine and the Rappaport Family Institute for Research in the Medical Sciences, together with US colleague Professor Irwin Rose, were awarded the 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their discovery of the ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation system.
