Message in Legacy from the late Mr. Bruce Rappaport of blessed memory, co-founder with the Technion of the Rappaport Institute.
The Rappaport Medical Sciences Building was inaugurated in 1979 by the late Prime Minister, Mr. Menachem Begin, in the presence of many distinguished guests. In my opening address at the inauguration ceremony, I recalled the famous words from Isaiah (2,3).
For out of Zion shall go out Torah and the word of the L-rd from Yerushalayim. At the same time, Ethics of the Fathers teaches us that where there is no bread there is no Torah.
These challenging words have inspired both me and my wife in our lifelong philanthropic activity, particularly with regard to the Rappaport Institute. As I reflect upon my family’s commitment to supporting medical research, I always ask whether our significant efforts have been productive. Success in science is measured by discoveries, achievements, inventions, and recognition by the international scientific community. I am proud to say that that the new and continuing research programs, and the scientific activities at the Institute are dedicated to achieving these goals. In the last several years, the Institute has recruited promising young researchers, and has become a platform for international meetings which bring together scientists of the highest level under its sponsorship.
We are confident that the Institute, under the guidance of its distinguished Scientific Advisory Board, Board of Directors and current Directorship, will continue to excel. For our part, the Institute is guaranteed our support into the future.
