From the Technion President

The Rappaport Family Institute for Research in the Medical Sciences was established some four decades ago to promote excellence in biomedical research at the Technion. Today the Institute supports innovative research in the fields of cancer, neurosciences, functional genomics and organogenesis.

Advancing health care in the 21st century is a grand global challenge that requires a multifaceted approach. Discovering and developing improved screening, diagnostics, personalized medicine and therapeutics requires revolutionary research approaches that cross traditional borders between academic fields. The Rappaport Family Institute plays a vital role in supporting multidisciplinary research that is the basis for new healthcare treatments and technologies. The Institute enables researchers from a wide range of specialties, from Israel and abroad, to collaborate and tackle the most difficult and complex problems concerning human health.

The 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry bestowed upon Distinguished Professors Avram Hershko and Aaron Ciechanover for their discovery of ubiquitin, is a definitive demonstration of the Technion’s collective strength and innovation-stimulating environment provided by the Rappaport Family Institute and Faculty of Medicine.

The Technion is profoundly grateful for the vision and generosity of Ruth and Bruce Rappaport and for the continual support provided by their children that is helping to create a healthier future for people worldwide.
